Sharon-- I found Salvatore Caliendo Pfc. with ASN: 32595585 KIA listed in the Manmouth County, NJ, Honor Roll.I qualified this through another resource and found a date of death of 13MAY45.Now, since you mention that he was serving in Europe, the tragedy of this is that this is a week AFTER VE-Day.
I could not find Paul listed anywhere in New Jersey. My alternate resource did provide a full name: Paul John Caliendo and a date of death of 14OCT43.As I postulated to you in a private email, it is likely that he died in service in Italy. However they could not provide a service number with this name--very unusual.
A search of some internet resources turned up a website that you should take a look at:
Here are photos of the five Caliendo Brothers in Service. (Also note that the person creating this website spelled the last name "Calendo" on the title bar.Spelling counts in military research!)
Salvatore is variously listed as Sal and "Sammy" and Samuel in the family text, but it is clear that it is the same person. Paul is shown wearing a Armored Forces or "Tankers Jacket" also referred to as an "Anzio Jacket" which reenforces my opinion that he served and died in Italy. His date of death being October 43 corresponds with operations following the landings at Salerno.
