I am gathering information on the WWII military air plane crashes that occurred during training missions out of the Sioux City Army Air Base. I have many of the official crash reports but am interested in locating any one out there that may have been a member of any of of the air crews of the crashed planes or was involved in any of the recovery efforts on the downed B-17's or B-24's. Jimmy Stewart received his final training in Sioux City before heading overseas in late '43. He was a squardron commander while at the base and crashed a Liberator while attempting a landing durning a thunderstorm. Anyone out there who was a member of his squardron or has any recollection of Stewart's days at the SC base?
