To locate surviving vets who knew your dad and to gather further information of his exploits you will need to find what Rifle Company he was in.
All you needis your newspaper clipping and the contact info for the 37th alumni groups.Call the alumni groups and ask if they have members from the 145th Inf Reg.Also ask if they knew which Company(s) were responsible for taking Hill 700?
Either way you know he was in the 145th and you know his Company was recognized for fighting on Hill 700.The alumni groups should be able to at least put you in contact with vets from the 145th
The other option is to find the book "The 37th Inf Divison in WWII.This book will contain a day by day commentary on the actions of all the units attached to the 37th.Get the book find the pages that describe the taking of Hill 700 and see what Rifle Company it was. When you find the Rifle Company mentioned start looking through the book for additional citations to that unit as well as individual names. The back of the book should also list all awards, wounded in action as well as KIA. All these names will have the soldiers unit designation after it.When you find all the names from your dads Rifle Company do a 411,Bigfoot, white pages search for their telephone numbers.I think the 37th was comprised of Ohio National Guardsmen so any hits you get in the Ohio area are probably your best bet.
