The designation for an IDPF (Individual Deceased Personnel File) is still IDPF File 293 just like it was for WW2.The friendly folks at TAPC have their entire game plan scripted out in this document, and the startling thing is that they have a provision for CLEANING HOUSE!
It says that IDPFs will be held for a period of 75 years and at the end of that time they will be DESTROYED.
Now think about that!!!!!We are now 58 years since the end of WW2 and for all practical purposes the Government has a self-imposed mandate to destroy these priceless documents.
Now to be fair the website does not say this will be done to the WW2 IDPFs--but then a 293 is a 293 isn't it?--and when did the Gov't ever look twice before they implimented a regulation?
I would hope that someone with more clout than me would look into this and let us all know what their plan is regarding the WW2 vintage IDPFs--
If their mandate is for all IDPFs then the clock is ticking and they will be ashes starting in about the year 2015. That's 12 and a half years from today, folks!
