Joan-- Here is the extract from the USAAF Combat Chronology for 29/30 JUN 1942.
"MEDITERRANEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS (MTO, USAMEAF) B-24s bomb the harbor at Tobruk, Libya during the night of 29/30 Jun; first US combat casualties in the Middle East are recorded as 1 B-24 is lost. Major General Lewis H Brereton moves his detachment from Egypt to Palestine, as General ErwinRommel advances toward the Suez Canal."
The Halverson Project (HALPRO) did not carry a numbered designation during it's operations in the MTO during JUN42. But as of 30JUN42 it became the 376th Bomb Group. The above citation is for the last mission of the HALPRO Group. As you can see it references one--the first--loss of a B-24.
If Cpl. Kramer was aboard this aircraft and was reported missing, then a year-and-a-day later--1JUL43--would be his "official" date of death as referenced on ABMC.
I could not locate a MACR# for the B-24 aircraft lost on 29/30JUN.
