Jack and Hattie - GO does mean General Orders. General Orders are issued by different levels of command. Each command starts each year with GO #1 numbering them in order through December of that yr. Then they start over beginning with Jan of the new year. So it is important to include all the info you have when asking for one.Do you have the actual order? Or did you write National Archives asking for a copy giving them the name of the man whose order it was, the #, date and name of unit that would have issued it? It could have several names on it or only one. They are not always issued by the unit the man was in. So the unit that ordered it is important.
National Archives can take as long as 3-4 months for a reply. Hope this helps. Mary
