This isn't what your inquiry was about, but I feel compelled to relate a little add-on information. OK?
The unit was activated at Fort Meade, MD, 15 Dec 44, as Heavy Self-Propelled 93rd Anti-Tank BN; following training, it left NY P/E, 9 Jan 44; arrived England 17 Jan 44 (my birthday!) arrived France-ETO, 1 Jul 44. arrived NY P/E, 13 Feb 46
Campaigns (5) :
Ardennes-Alsace, 16 Dec 44 / 24 Jan 45 Central Europe, 22 Mar 45 / 11 May 45 Normandy, 6 Jun 44 / 24 Jul 44 Northern France, 25 Jul 44/ 14 Sep 44 Rhineland, 15 Sep 44 / 11 May 45.
Location at war's end, 15 Aug 45, Altendorf, Germany.
This was a non-divisional battalion, meaning that it was assigned to various senior units on an as-needed, where-needed basis.
Three such divisional assignments follow:
4th Infantry Division, 23 Aug 44 / 29 Sep 44 8th ID, 19 Nov 44 / 10 Dec 44 78th ID, 11 Dec 44 / post-9 May 45.
You will want to look up each divisional history, in order to relate the 893rd to a speciific campaign. When it mentions the 4th ID or V Corps in the referenced time frames, you will be aware of where they were at that time.
The 4th ID was under V Corps from 22 Aug 44.
The Commanding Officer of 4th ID in the period of your prime interest was Major General Raymond O. Barton, from Jul 42 / Dec 44.
You may also want to pick up Dr. Ambrose's CITIZEN SOLDIERS, which refers to the 4th ID 19 times, and even relates individual unit operations on given days.
I hope that this is of interest to you. Please let me klnow if it fits the profile you have developed.
