Initially, I would like to set the record straight and clarify the unfounded allegations stated herein that the surname "tsilimidos" is somehow related with albania.
History reveals that "arvanites" or albanians were never in Cephalonia until very recently (from 2000 and after as economic and/or illegal immigrants, as albania is not part of the European Union), therefore there is no connection of them or the genealogy of Cephalonia. The mere fact that the first synthetic of the surname may mean something in another language, is a very thin arguement to say the very least. Segments of the surname may mean several things in many languages, its call linguistic coincidence. For instance, the mere fact that my surname is Drakatos which means dragon, does not mean that I am of Chinese origins nor that I blow fire out of my nostrils to that respect.
Anyhow, the surname "tsilimidos" originates from and is found primarily in Cephalonia, Greece; the island where it originates from. In particular, the "tsilimidos" clan comes from the Cephalonian Village of Valeriano, which is located in the southern parts of the island, close to the very popular tourist village of Skala.
The village "Valeriano" is in it self comprised by many different sub-villages in the eyes of the locals there. This is because parts of the village was domiciled by different families. Therefore the first sub-part of Valeriano is known to the locals as "Tsilimidata", since the family of Gerassimos Tsilimidos and his sons lived and still lives there. The next part is known to the locals as "Melissarata", as the family of Melissaratos and his sons lived and still lives there. The next part is known to the locals as "Haldata" as the family of Haldas lived and still lives there and so on.
The surname "tsilimidos" also appears in the famous "libro d'oro", known as the book of aristocrats in Italian. In particular, following the Italian invasion and occupation of the Island from the Italians, the italians sought to create a register, whereby the aristocrats of Cephalonia would be entered, mainly for taxation purposes. As the "tsilimidos" family was a prominent family, deriving much income from their vast real estate that they owned which they used to caltivate sultanas and sell their produce throughout Greece and Europe, they were entered as such in the book of aristocrats.
A strong characteristic of the Tsilimidos family, that makes them no different than the rest of the Cephalonias, is their love for their family. Whilst their income was mainly from agricultural activities, they used that income to invest in their children, who accordingly were not involved in agricultural activities.
For instance, Alkinoos Tsilimidos, who originates from Valeriano is a well established Hollywood film director. Many Tsilimidos's are now prominent solicitors and doctors in the United States, London, Athens and Cyprus. Notwithstanding their very successful professional posts, they still preserve and visit Valeriano in summer, during their holidays.
Of those who have stayed in the island, most of them are involved in retail, local politics and in the hospitality industry.
Some of them can be traced online, as they do have profiles on well known social network websites.
Hope the above was very informative and look forward to your message to reply to any further queries you may have.
