John Robert Evans and Mary Ann Helena McCarthy were married in Buenos Aires on 19 Nov 1890. John was a photographer and Mary Ann Helena (known as Lily) was a governess at the time of marriage. They returned to England and were listed with her parents on the 1891 census. They came to Canada by 1893 and adopted our grandmother, Eleanor. They lived in Calgary, Revelstoke and Seattle, then returned to Buenos Aires, Argentina about 1896 where John was once again a photographer. They returned to England about 1899 and were living in Kent for the 1901 census. Shortly after that the adoption of Eleanor was annulled. John and Lily Evans were apparently back in Buenos Aires on 27 April 1905 when they witnessed a correction to their marriage registration. I have lost track of John and Lily thereafter. They don't appear to be on the 1911 census in England. I would like to know more about their life in Argentina - were there business directories, etc. where one could find out where John was a photographer? Were there censuses taken? If so, what years? Nora has two report cards from Colegio Argentino - is there any record of this school? I would love any more information I could get about this family.
