A marriage has been noted of Alexander Cameron of Swordelshaol, Ardnamurchan and Mary Cameron (her surname blurred on PR printout) on 22 May 1777.
Isabella and Duncan Cameron per 'Brilliant' were born Sworddale (or Swardle, Swordle). Swordle is about a mile east of Kilmory, on the north coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Swordlechaol was one of three crofting farms in the Swordle group, with 4 tenants at the time of it's clearance in 1853.
This family has reason to accept a connection with the Dungallon family, but the details have yet to be discovered. Donald is said to have called Jean Cameron (who was wife of Dr Archibald Cameron) "Aunt". Her Sister Mary married Alexander Cameron of Glennevis, whose descendants are well recorded. Christian married a Fraser. The 3 sons died without issue, except perhaps Alexander, known as Dungallon, who was standard bearer in the Prince's Army (a son may have died without issue). So an unrecorded Sister has to be found to establish a relationship. "Dungallon" was certainly used as a house name, and stud animal name, in the later family.
An alternative and perhaps more likely is that "Aunt" Jean Cameron was in fact a first cousin once removed of Donald, who was Grandson of Donald Cameron of Camusaine, brother of Archibald Cameron of Dungallon (father of the standard bearer).
What appears to be certain is that Donald and his family were tenant farmers at Camusaine, on the estate of Sir James Riddell, new owner of the lands formerly owned by Alexander Cameron of Dungallon. Donald is known to have also worked as a stonemason on the Drumnatorran bridge over the Strontian River, employed by Duncan "of the Road" McPherson.
He was Stonemason in Scotland, farmer in Australia. He went to Hexham on arrival with his sons, as tenant farmers, later to Green Hills (Morpeth) and about 1845 settled in the area, at "Waterhole Reach", on Karuah River near Allworth (there is now a quarry on site of the home). He fathered 15 or 16 children, 11 still living when he died in 1867 at "Waterhole Reach".
