It notes his paternal grandfather as Yorkshire-born, police magistrate in Tas....moved from Tasmania during gold rush.

That would not fit with his age at death but I would keep an open mind about that as a source of accurate information.
I suspect there is more than one wife to John Foster, and more than one mother to the children.
