Marguerite Janet Smithson (born May 1860 in New York) married a David Langridge (born 1841 in Mereworth, England) 5 Oct 1880, in Hoboken, New Jersey. Their son William Henry Russell Langridge was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 5 Sep 1881, and grew up in the Bronx, Westchester County, New York. Marguerite (or Margaret, as her name is found in nearly all of the few records) married a C. James McNally after the death of her first husband and they lived in Westchester County, at least for a while. I believe from a death notice for a David Langridge in the New York Herald newspaper that David Langridge of Mereworth died 16 Apr 1887. (I've posted records on my family tree on Ancestry.com.)
According to family lore, two of David Langridge's brothers went to Australia supposedly to establish a church there. David's son William Henry Russell Langridge I supposedly was named after David's brothers or some of them.
According to family lore, William Henry Russell Langridge I paid a genealogist to research his English ancestry. After receiving the information he burned it! I assume he learned of one or more facts of which he was ashamed.
The names that I've been given for David's brothers (or David and his brothers) are these:
David (or Russell?)
I understand that David's father's name was William. However, this information about brothers' and father's names could be all mixed up.
David's son William Henry Russell Langridge I gave his children, now all deceased, the following names, which might provide clues to family in England or Australia:
1. William Henry Russell Langridge II (1905-1987)
2. Helen Le Roy Langridge (1907-2004)
3. Marguerite F. Janet Langridge (1909-1997)
4. Gwendolyn Langridge (1912-1995)
5. David George Langridge, Sr. (1914-1993)
6. Muriel Louise Violet Langridge (She was born after 1914 and lived only 1 month.)
These children were born and, with the exception of Muriel Langridge, grew up in Yonkers, Westchester County, New York.
If you know anything especially about David Langridge and the rest of his family, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you. I'm hoping that you'll be excited to learn about David Langridge from Mereworth and his descendants in America.
(Also according to family lore, Marguerite Janet Smithson was related to James Smithson, founder of the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D. C. I'm greatly interested in her lineage, too, of course!)
