Wondering if anyone has any information on a William Blackham born 1813 in Belper Derbyshire. He was transported to Australia unfortunatley I do not which state he was sent to.
WILLIAM aged 19with GEORGE GREGORY age 17 was convicted of Stealing at Belper a parcelcontaining four yards of blue linen cloth and eight skeins of thread the property of BENJAMIN ROGERS.
BLACKHAM was convicted GREGORY pleaded guilty.
Mr Gell in passing sentence, said BLACKHAM at the Summer Assizes 1830 had been tried for an assault of a very violent nature, and although he had then escaped, there was no doubt that he had committed an act which nearly added murder to his robbery. Under these cicumstances, the court felt justified in passing a heavy sentence, this was the first time his companion in guilt had been in custody, and in hope it would be the last, he would receive a lenient sentence.-BLACKHAM to be transported for 7 years-GREGORY to be imprisoned for three months with hard labour.
I am hoping that someone might have some further information on William in Australia
