Mary Anne's family sailed from Plymouth on the ship Palmyra on the 14th April 1848, and arrived at Melbourne on the 19th July 1848. The Watts family settled in Coburg and worked on Thomas Barrett's market garden on the banks of the Merri Creek at Pentridge. Mary Anne, aged 12, became a nursemaid for Robert Robinson, a saddler of William St, Melbourne, with a 12 months contract at 3 pounds per annum plus rations. Mary Anne's parents signed the contract.
John married Mary Anne Watts in 1853. He is listed on the 1856 Electoral Roll as a mason and housebuilder, living on the Merri Creek, Pentridge Division, in the Coburg area of Melbourne. The family moved to Queensland about late 1862.
Mary Anne's 2nd husband John Poole McLeish died 11 May 1920 and was buried at Toowoomba, Qld. There were 2 stillborn children in 1869 and 1870 buried at Toowoomba.
Ernest James Harding (born 16 Oct 1865 QLD)married Maria Agnes Gorman (born c1866) in QLD on 1 Feb 1888. They had 10 children, 4 of them dying as infants. Ernest was living at Toowoombawhere 3 of their children were buried in 1888, 1893 and 1895. Their daughter Lily was buried at Toowong cemetery in Brisbane in 1897. Electoral rolls show Ernest as a draper in 1903 living at Stanley St in Toowong. In 1913 Ernest was a grading inspector living at Aston St, Toowong, with his wife Maria, home duties, and daughters Ruby, milliner, and May, dressmaker. In 1922 the family was living at the corner of Stanley Terrace and Duke St, Toowong. Ernest was still a grading inspector and his wife Maria and daughter Olive Ann were listed as home duties.
Maria was buried at Toowong cemetery in Brisbane on 17 Aug 1928 age 62 and Ernest James Harding was buried at Toowong on 26 Sep 1946 age 81.
