In AUSTRALIA there are two main clans of NELMS, the Brisbane clan and the Melbourne clan. Both clans originated in England and both are related from several generations back - before separately moving to Australia.
The Brisbane clan started with John Nelms and his son Alfred; who both sailed from England to Queensland in 1873 aboard the barque 'Indus'.More information on the Brisbane clan is available at: http://Peter_Nelms.tripod.com/Family_History.htmlhttp://Peter_Nelms.tripod.com/Family_History.html

The connection between the two clans goes back to Cook Nelms (1766-1834) of Shabbington, Bucks, England.Cook married Mary North and they had 5 sons and 2 daughters. One son was Cook Jnr (1795) who married Harriet Lovegrove and one of their sons was John (1823-1903) who sailed to Queensland.Another son of Cook Snr and Mary North was Josiah (1797) who married Mary Bradbury and their son was George who was sent to Tasmania.
Another son of Cook Snr and Mary North - James (1799-1865) who married Elizabeth Radborne, and a daughter of Cook Snr and Mary - Rebekah (1802) who married Edward Radborne, have descendants in USA (buried in Toledo, Ohio).
