Susannah Pearson probably arrived in SA 14 Jan. 1852 on the CHARLOTTE JANE, with her husband, William JONES, and son, from Devon. Her name does not appear in the passenger lists in State Lib, as handwritten copies. Is there info on a CD somewhere?
William JONES later married Susan Wangford- an ex-convict- she was born in 1821, at Castle Rising, Norfolk, Gt Britain. At age 18 yrs, she was convicted of theft at Kings Lynn, 1839, and sentenced to transportation, for 7 years, to Launceston, Tasmania, aboard the HINDOSTAN.While an inmate of the Female Factory at Launceston, she bore a child to one of the guards, identified only as Charles. The child died at age 3 months, of bronchitis, which was deemed by the esteemed Coronial Court as a "visitation from God."
In 1844 she met and married George Henry Russell, a free man at the time. After the death of their first child, Edward, in 1847, the Russells went to South Australia aboard the UNION, July 1847. They settled at Third Creek, Magill where George worked as a Gardener.
Susan married three times (1) to George Russell; (2) to William Reeds (3) to William Jones. The BISA entry records the marriage to William Reeds only.
Both William Reeds and William Jones are ancestors (3rd great-grandfathers) of Welwood Leslie Anderson (compiler of this genealogy), thus Susan Wangford-Reeds-Jones is twice his step-3xgrandmother.
News of Bill Jones' first wife would be appreciated.
