Susan Hampton (my great-great grandmother) and Thomas Bray were married before they left the UK - at the Liskeard Registry Office on 26 February 1865.
They arrived in South Australia on the "Peeress" later in 1865, with his brothers James, Alexander and Charles. There was an older woman also named Bray on the same ship but she was not part of their party according to the ship's register.
Of their nine children only Martha, Elizabeth Ellen, Kelita (a male), Abdiel and Thomas Eli survived to adulthood and only the first four survived their mother.
Susan and Thomas moved the family to Queensland - Charters Towers - in the 1880's where Elizabeth Ellen married Thomas Bagot.
Their daughter Florence Gladys married Donald Spencer Easton andproduced my mother (also Florence Gladys) in Townsville in 1906.
That family eventually ended up in Ipswich in southern Queensland, by about 1914. They had 8 children, all of whom married and seven of whom had at least one child.
I have a photo of Susan Hampton Bray that will be on Ancestry when I do my winter scanning project.
As we live near (Brrr) Canberra I always save a project like that for our sub-zero days.
I was named after Susan, by the way; she was quite a grand old lady who led quite a sad life by all accounts.
Let me know if any of you would like more informatio on our branch of the family.
