Bulletin # 2 (01 May 2001) This Week: Buchsfelde Society: What’s it about ?
Well . . . that’s more or less up to you . . . the descendants of the Buchsfelde Pioneers! You see . . . it is in its infancy right now, and needs support.
It could be a champion in the cause of . . . preservation of Buchsfelde District history.Focusing on issues like: early land records, residents, celebrations, achievements, disasters, settlement proposals, productivity etc.
Family histories. This pursuit picked up momentum in South Australia at the time of the State’s Sesquicentennial, and today researching one’s family tree is widely practised.Buchsfelde was home to many early pioneers in the state, and is rich in history. An organised society of descendants could become a most useful forum for this pursuit.
Or, it could be a watchdog body for the upkeep of one or both of the area cemeteries.
Then again, it might just become a means to draw descendants together for a onetime good old shin dig, like a party or picnic.Which could be followed by another one . . .perhaps in the next century ?
An association could pursue some, or all of these proposals - or more. And the best part is that descendants wouldn’t need to commit themselves to any . . . just show interest. On the other hand, some people might have strong interests in a particular pursuit, and might want to contribute time to that cause.
But, and there is always a but, it would be useful to have a core body whose role it would be to keep an overall eye on the various areas of interest.
So . . .it could offer something to a lot of descendants, even the passive ones who don’t want to be involved, but nevertheless would like to be keptinformed.
There we are . . . that’s what the Buchsfelde Societycould be !
Alas, through necessity, promotion of this society needs to be conducted via email at this time. That could change at a later date, of course.Meanwhile, email recipients, please distribute widely these email bulletins to other interested members of your clan.
