Look Up Please - Woodward family
Hello there
I am trying to find out any information regarding my gg grandfather CHARLES WOODWARD.I think he was transported to Tasmania as a convict, arriving in 1843 on the Navarino.
He came out to New Zealand in 1864 from Melbourne with his wife MARY ANN WOODWARD (previously MOORE) and five of their children - John George, aged 11, Eliza aged 7, Chas aged 5, Mary, aged 3 and Henry aged 1 on board the Swiftsure.
We have reason to believe that Charles may have been married in Tasmania to a JANE TATE (TAIT) and had several children with her - James Richard WOODWARD, born 1847, Charles James WOODWARD b 1848, a female child, born 1849 and Edward John WOODWARD B 1850.
According to the Archives records Charles and Jane married in Bothwell in 1846.
We have been unable to find any details of the birth of my g grandfather, John George WOODWARD and wonder whether perhaps he may have been born either out of wedlock to Charles and Mary or even could have been Mary's child before she married (?) Charles.
Charles Woodward used an alias of WILLIAMS and Charles and Mary's firstborn daughter Elizabeth WOODWARD's birth was recorded as follows :CHARLES WOODWARD WILLIAMS,Baker, father, MARY WILLIAMS (MOORE) Mother. She was born in Sydney on 22 September 1857.
Would love to know if anyone out there has any information on this family.
I have just returned home from a holiday in Tasmania and just wish I knew all this before I went.
Cheers
Lorraine
