We are looking for information on Chaddock Claxton, b. 1738, Bermuda; m. 19 Nov. 1763, Edith Bethel Clark, St. James Church, Sandys Parish, Bermuda; d. 1785, Sandys Parish, Bermuda. Edith Clark was b. 1739, Bermuda; and d. 1806, Bahamas, we believe. I am not sure if Edith's birth surname was Bethel or Clark. One record says that Edith Bethel married 1st) Benjamin Clark and had a son, William Clark, b. 26 Aug 1759, and 2nd) Chaddock Claxton. This seems a little odd to me, since at least three of her children by Chaddock Claxton bore the middle name Clark.
We do know that Edith and Chaddock Claxton had children Benjamin Clark, Esther Clark, John Clark, Mary Ann, and Frances Claxton. Esther Claxton and Frances Claxton Gibson were the 1st and 2nd wives of George Butler, who settled in Nassau about 1790. It would seem that many of the Claxtons also emigrated to the Bahamas during that time period.
If anyone has knowledge of these families, we would surely appreciate your sharing it with us. Thanks!
