I am looking for relativeson my mother's side; my grandfather was named Nikola (Nicola) Vrebac. He was born in Bosanska Dubica in the 1890s. I can't find records for his immigration to the United States. He married first my grandmother, an Italian-American, but they divorced in the 1930s. They had one daugther, my mother Roksanda (Roxy). He remarried a Desanka Tesla. They owned a restaurant, the Belgrade Cafe, in Pittsburgh, and then Vrebac Tavern in Aliquippa, PA, and had a son, my uncle Nick.Nikola became a US citizen in 1944 and died in 1957, before I was born.
My mother has said she never met any of Nikola's siblings or cousins as far as she can recall. We did receive a phone call in the 1970s or 1980s from someone who was a Vrebac relative who traveled to Canada; my father was more fluent in Serbian, so he spoke to that person. We were not able to visit with this person.
I am planning a trip to Serbia next summer and would love to see where my grandfather came from, and to meet any relatives I might have.Of course I would be willing to come to Bosna for that purpose.
If anyone has information, or suggestions about where to find information, please feel free to contact me.Thank you (hvala)!
