I would like to communicate with any descendants of this family. I understand that they settled on a homestead in Chipman, Alberta.
I am writing a story about the people who emmigrated to Canada from villages around the town of Horodenka (located in Galicia in 1900, very close to the Bukovina border). The villages include Hankowce, Russo, Toporowce, Targowica and a few others. All these are within a few miles south of Horodenka.
The Hamburg lists show the Mochoruks leaving Hamburg on the Hispania in May of 1900. They list their residence as Toporowce, not Toporoutz (nearby in Bukovina). The shipping company used the Polish spelling for their records at this time. My great grandparents emmigrated to Canada from Toporowce one month after the Mochoruk family. I know for certain they were from Toporowce, Galicia.
It is important for me to know if the Mochoruks were from Toporowce or Toporoutz. Toporowce in district Horodenka,in Galcia. Toporoutz is in district Chernowitz, in Bukovina. These villages are quite close in distance. Toporowce is what is cleary written on the ships list. To confuse things more, both these villages are known today as Toporivsti (Ukrainian spelling). There have been many families which left from both villages and either Toporowce or Toporoutz is stated on the ships lists.
If the Mochoruks were from Galicia, I would be including this family in my literature. They would have been from the same village as my great grandparents Ilko and Paraska Huzijak (now Huziak), who settled in Saskatchewan. They would have been friends or maybe even neighbours.
I would greatly appreciate any knowledge about this village and family. But first I must clear up the village name confusion.
