I'm looking for information on a Sophia Bock who married Jules Wehrend. She was born Oct. 1872 in Davenport, Scott Co., IA and he was born in 1860 in Germany, came to the states when he was 4yrs. Information on the Wehrends was sent to me by William, Jr. I am interested specifically in Jules and Sophia's children, they moved to Canada aft. 1910, Sophia died in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada in 1911. They both worked at Gas Wells which had a camp there, Sophia was a Cook for the camp and there had been an obstruction in one of the gas lines and when the obstruction was cleared the gas shot through with such force that while Sophia was in the kitchen the gas came through and caused an explosion upon impact with the wood burning stove, she died in the explosion. All the well miners came into camp to show respect for a woman they admired. They took up a collection and rented a hearse for her, they say there were 42 well digger rigs that followed the hearse and the whole town shut down for the funeral. I have information on the Bock line for any descendants.
