Hi,Kim.I just happen to own this book.All of the following information has been taken from notes I made from the book "Captain McNeill and His Wife the Nishga Chief" researched and written by Robin Percival Smith, published in 2001 by Hancock House Publishers Ltd.
Matilda was from the village of Gitradeen.Born around 1810 (ref. page 12) Married Captain William Henry McNeill in 1831.Matilda's first born child was Helen, born Oct. 1828 (ref. page 11, 111) She died on March 27, 1869 at 40 yrs. oldHelen was the daughter of Chief Sakau'an of Gitiks and Matilda.Helen was adopted by Captain McNeill.She married George Blenkinsop at Fort Stikine in 1846.They had children together, but the book does not list their names or how many children they had. There is a photo of them in the book on page 127.The photo is from British Columbia Archives photo G-05201.
Matilda and Captain McNeill had 10 children together. (ref. to page 191) William (1832)Alfred (1834)Lucy (1835)Matilda (1842)Fanny (1843)Henry (1848)Twin girls born at Fort Rupert, B.C. in November 1950 names Rebecca and Harriet.2 other children were born to Matilda that likely died in infancy or childhood.Their names are not noted in the book.
