Thank you again for that information. I have a copy of Andrew John Cassedy's birth registration in Calcutta 01/03/1872 (i think he may have been saying he was younger to get into the army), his parents were John James Cassedy/Cassidy and Arabella Webb (a widow). I also know of 5 siblings born in Calcutta between 1862 and 1867. IGI has a record of him being christened in Inishcarra Cork 12/10/1873, we have a bible of his which was presented to him in 1881 by the 'Cork Auxilliary Hibernian Bible Society'.
He next appears in 1898 when he is commisioned by the US navy whilst aboard the USS Harvard during the Spanish-American war. He marries in 1900 to Daisy Ellen Tout in Southampton, like you say, and is absent in the 1901 census. Five children are born by 1910, then according to family stories he went to North America and made a fortune gold mining which he then somehow lost. He attempts to join the Canadian Army in 1915 but is rejected but is then accepted in 1916 at Vancouver.
He returns to Southampton and he and Daisy have 4 more children, he must have had enough adventures as he stayed put, he died in 1951. As you can see from this there are a few gaps in my knowledge which i am attempting to research.
His father John James Cassidy is the big mystery, i don't know where or when he is born and dies, only that he was in Calcutta between 1860 and 1872. He gives his father's name as William Cassidy when he marries in 1860. Andrew's mother's name was Arabella Jane Kelly born in 1833 in Inishcarra, Cork (but i'm not absolutely sure of that), when she marries she gives her father's name as Thomas Alcock, i think Alcock was her mother's surname. Arabella dies in 1897 in Cardiff.
