I, too, am descended from the RUMSEY family of Wiltshire, England.
Here are some snippets that I have built up on my cousins, Gerald Rumsey BAKER and Cecil Ernest BAKER.
Dr. Gerald Rumsey BAKER, b. May 2nd., 1873, bapt. on May 22nd., 1873 in Mere, Wiltshire, England.He trained as doctor in St. Bartholomew’s Hosp., London, England.Gerald first married (1) Laura Emeline A. LEHMANN in Lambeth, London, in Q3 1894 (BMD ref. 1d / 730);she was born ?Germany, Jan 28th., 1872.They migrated to Canada c 1897.Gerald, Laura and Ruth were enumerated in the 1901 Canadian census on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada.His marriage to Laura did not last.Later, he was a doctor of medicine in Quesnel, in Caribou County, B.C., Canada.Gerald married (2) Mrs. Ellen (Nellie) Elizabeth HOWISON, (nee ENGLISH) Nov. 1st., 1915, Savona, B.C. and they lived on North Star Ranch on the east side of the Quesnel River;divorced in 1930.Gerald married (3) Helene and they lived in 385 Bowron Avenue, Quesnel, from about 1936, shortly after their marriage.Gerald79 died in Quesnel, Sept. 30th., 1953;Ellen 83, widow, died in Quesnel on June 29th., 1971.Gerald and Laura had issue:
• Ruth Rumsey BAKER, b. March 20th., 1895 in England;birth registered in Lambeth in Q1 of 1895 (BMD ref:1d / 529).Shemigrated to Canada, with her parents, c. 1897.Ruth, 6, was enumerated with her parents, in the census of 1901 in Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada.In an obituary for her father, in 1953, Ruth was mentioned to be living in England.
Cecil Ernest BAKER, b. June 5th., 1880, bapt. on June 27th., 1880 in Mere.He migrated to Canada in 1897;sheep rancher.Cecil, 21, single, enumerated in the 1901 census on Salt Spring Island;res. Rainbow Road, in Salt Springs Island, Ganges Harbor, B.C., Canada.He married Hilda Mary BANNISTER in 1915 in Victoria, BC.Hilda 75 died in Ganges on July 6th., 1955;Cecil 83, widower, died. Ganges, March 8th., 1963.
