I have some information which I hope will be of some help.
I found no reference to Canterbury Village in the Okanagan, near Kelowna or Winfield. However, in the Henderson's Gazetteer and Directory, 1900/01, I found the following references: "Canterbury Townsite Co., Ltd., incorporated Sept.19, 1899..." "Canterbury Townsite, 640 Acres, situated at the mouth of Toby Creek, Lake Windermere, East Kootenay."
I have since learned that the original name of Invermere, British Columbia was Canterbury.I could find no other refrence. The map at the Invermere web site: (http://www.invermere.com/map/map_invermere_west.asp) shows Toby Creek in relation to the town. BC Archives has one reel of a newspaper published in Canterbury from 1901 January 3 to 1902 May 1.
I hope this is of some help to you.Good luck with your search.
