First, I'm not a descendants of Jean-Baptiste LEDOUX !
But I'm sure this will help the descendants a lot because I think I solved the mystery of his ancestry.
In Gail Morin's book Metis Family, Jean-Baptiste LEDOUX is said to be born c. 1773. He was married May 03, 1841 in St-Francois-Xavier MB to Marie Madeleine Saulteaux.
In the Manitoba Marriages Index, Jean-Baptiste LEDOUX's parents are listed as : Etienne LEDOUX and Theophile ALLAIRE. Jean-Baptiste is said to be from St-Denis de Montreal. In Gail Morin's book, is said that a search in the PRDH database did not give any results as to find a marriage record for the parents. The reason is simple : either the priest who officiated to the marriage or the marriage index transcriber recorded the mother's name wrong !
Now, since I don't have access to the St-Francois-Xavier parish register, I can't verify this, and I'd be very interested in seeing the the full transcrip.
I made a search in the PRDH database, starting with any record listing Etienne LEDOUX. Then I searched for any record listing Theophile ALLAIRE (ALLAIR). Here's what I found :
Etienne LEDOUX (s/o Gabriel & Marguerite MORIN) was married first to Anne GAREAU. He then married Marie-Josephte BOURGAUD dit LACROIX 3 Aug. 1744 at Contrecoeur, Qc.
Etienne LEDOUX was married third to Marie-Claire-Felicite AUDET dit LAPOINTE 20 Feb. 1767 at St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. Felicite AUDET (d/o Louis & Madeleine SIMARD) was the widow of Theophile ALLAIRE ! The were married by contract 20 March 1761 (Deguire notary). She was first married to Joseph BOIVIN, Jan. 31st, 1752.
Etienne LEDOUX and Felicite AUDET had at least 3 children :
1. Pierre bpt. 25 Dec. 1767 at St-Denis-sur-Richelieu ; 2. Louis-Amable bpt. 19 Jul. 1769 at St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu ; 3. Jean-Baptiste bpt. 23 Feb. 1773 at St-Denis-sur-Richelieu.
I searched for burial or marriage record for this Jean-Batiste LEDOUX and can't find one, at least in Quebec. So I guess this it the right one. How the second husband of his mother became listed as his mother in his marriage record remains a mystery !
The parish of St-Denis was in the judicial district of Montreal prior to the creation of the St-Hyacinthe district later in the XIXth century.
Jean-Baptiste LEDOUX and Marie-Madeleine SAUTEAUX, married May 03, 1841 in St-Francois-Xavier MB, had three children : Eusebe, Elmire, Pierre and Antoine.
I'm looking foreward for comments from descendants,
