I have posted queries at McLean forum previously, but wonder if anyone out there has worked on the foundation history and genealogy for this particular McLean family in the past two years, and therefore has updated info.
My daughters are descendents of John McLean born March 1815 in Glenalmond, Perthsire, Scotland and his wife Rhoda Rebekah Black born 1826 in New Brunswick, Canada. I presume her folks in New Brunswick were also from Scotland.
1815 John McLean was living in 1881 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with his son Alexander McLean and Alexander's wife Margaret Barth. Rhoda Black McLean had passed away in June 1877 in Portage la Prairie.
Alexander McLean was the Sheriff of Portage La Prairie and was killed in an accident ten years later, in 1891, at age 42. My children descend from Alexander's youngest brother John McLean born 1866, who married Charlotte E. Edwards from England.
I have the 1881 Canadian census on disc and see several McLean families still in Puslinch, Wellington County, Ontario, where these McLean's also came from. In all likelihood, they are related to my Portage la Prairie McLean's- I would like to find (McLean) descendents who have worked on the Puslinch McLean's and would be able to identify (everyone) on this 1881 census.
How exciting- on this 1881 census, there is a John McLean age 100 (!) living in home of Donald (43) and Christina (54) McLean- this places his birth at about 1781- is he the progenitor of most of these Ontario/Manitoba McLean's?
There are 8 homes in Puslinch where heads are McLean folks- 3 others have McLean individuals living in them- will send info if anyone interested in a particular Mclean family living in Puslinch, Ontario in 1881.
Any info greatly appreciated- I am working on this family name and others associated by marriage (Edwards, Black, Bell, Guay, McRobbie, Wishart, Douglas, Barth, McLuckie, Levack) for my McLean daughters.
Lee Watson, if you read this, have you any new McLean info to share?
