Looking for info on John Baikie/Bakie, born 1830 Caithness, Scotland to Sinclair Baikie and Betsy McDonald.(Sinclair Baikie was the son of Donald Baikie and Barbara Sinclair).
John came to Manitoba about 1848/1850 and worked for the Hudson Bay Company until 1866 retiring to thePembina area of Dakota Territory (North Dakota).
His grandson has his first wife named Felicite PEPIN with children all born Winnipeg, however, my research shows that a couple of this same name found in the Metis/Halfbreed Scrip files (www.archives.ca) had totally different named children, with some being born the same years as those children he had with wife no.2 (my line). The children that we have for John and wife no.1 were all born in Winnipeg....so Felicite PEPIN can NOT be the John in questions first wife. There is another man with a simular sounding name: Bakie/Baikie SINCLAIR, also born in Scotland (Orkney Islands) who married to an Elizabeth SWAIN.Caithness and Orkney are very near in distance.Could be that John who m. Felicite PEPIN was connected somehow to this man? John and wife no.1 would have married in Winnipeg (Red River Settlement) about 1858.Need help finding this wife's name to settle the confusion! She died in 1872.He re-married about 1876 Pembina to Marie LaFRAMBOISE. John died in June, 1897 near the Fort Rice Indian Reservation just south of Bismarck, North Dakota.
