Dear Jean Marie I have not seen the actual marriage certificate of William Patton married Mary Greig in 1844, both living in Montreal.I found it on the website Chateauguay Church Records. It gives the date and the witnesses in the online site but does not indicate the relationship of Charles Patton. To date the only Charles Patton I have been able to find was born Jan 3, 1824 in Port Henry, Arthabascawhich I think is now in N.Y.There is another Charles b 1825 from the 1881 Census in Bury, Compton, P.Q. and I am not sure if it is the same or not. My elderly uncle says that my great-grandmother talked of a relative who came over with the British army and he thinks this man was a sargeant but is not sure. I know that McGill University has papers on the Patton's in Montreal at their rare document division of the library but I have not been able to get there yet. There is a diary of George Patton who was in the military but I am not yet sure if he is related. Where do I request the marriage certificate for William and Mary? The 1881 census lists William in Montreal. He is the Chief of the Fire dept. at that time.I have some papers from the Museumin Montreal but they do not give me information concerning his birth date or family. Can you suggest anything else that I am not doing?I also found a John Patton in Montreal West Ward named in the 1834 Pollbook with a number 1250 . I have no idea what that is.
