I have noticed several of your postings to the Montreal forum and hope you may be able to answer a trivia question of sorts. I am searching for my family connections in Montreal involving the surnames Davis+Young, Robertson+Young, Bruce+Young and McDonald+Davis. In finding the family entries in the census most appear to have "Scottish" origins and often Presbyterian religion listed on at least one census. However I know that many involved religious intermarriage so that children end up raised Catholic. The couples would have been married between 1840 - 1935.
My question is this: Would I likely find marriage records in either the Drouin or Loiselle index if they weren't "Catholic" weddings and would I need to know the church parish to use either index? I had heard the Loiselle index was on microfilm and searchable be the surname of either husband or wife. Right now all I have is the age of their first born according to the census to use as a guess for the marriage date.To top it off there are conflicts in names reported on the marriage transcripts that I have obtained! Trying to find possible matches from here in BC is somewhat difficult.I wish I could visit home to Montreal and do some sleuthing!
I appreciate any advice you may have to give. Best wishes & happy Easter,
