Kristin, I think you can probably find the information you are looking for yourself since the government of Quebec and the church in Quebec have very good records. But, I know it's hard to find if you don't speak French and it might be easier to hire someone.I keep looking for that site I told you about.I should find it eventually.I know it was a link to a link, etc. Have you looked at Tanguay and Denissen?Denissen is for families in the Detroit River area, but who knows, there might be some clue. When I was looking at some photocopies of pages in Denissen last night, I saw the name Michael Monet dit Boismenu in relation to the Senets. It seems his widow Mary Ann Greffard maried Peter John Gastinon dit Duchene on 28 Jan 1800 in Detroit. One of their children, Archange, married Moses Senet 29 Jan 1828 in Detroit.Moses was myhusband's 3G grandfather and the son of Seraphine Greffard. There are so many intermarriages in the Detroit area that it makes your head spin to try to figure it out. When you mentioned Michigan, did you mean you knew of ancestors there?Where do you live?My husband grew up in Mt. Clemens, MI where many of these families lived. Its just north of Detroit. We live in KY just south of Cincinnati, so its hard to do research from here.If you didn't know, Detroit is celebrating its 300th anniversary next year and there are going to be events involving descendants of the original families. The city is helping some of the families organise family reunions.I don't have all the details. It sounds like you may be descended from one.Is there any information on that through the Gareau family association? If there's a Gareau reunion,it might be a good place to pick up some information.I would like my family to go, however I think its going to be during our vacation.
I want to go to Montreal sometime to look at records.I blew it by not going this summer. Now, I don't know if I can ever get there during the week because of my children being in school.I'll have to look into the archives hours.Perhaps they have some weekend hours. If I do go and you haven't gotten your information yet, I'd be happy to see what I can find.
