I am researching the RCAF Pathfinder crew of 405 Squadron who were shot down at Rohrau, about 16 miles southwest of Stuttgart, Germany, the night of 02 Jan. 1945.There were 7 crew members aboard.Five of the crew died, including S/L Nathan Crawford.
I have the following information on S/L Crawford which comes from the RCAF Assoc. of Canada:
- He was born in Appling, GA U.S.A. 16 Sept. 1909 but educated in Moncton, N. B. 1915-1926.He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Sewance, Tennessee.
- Married in Sudbury, ON but ultimately home given as Chatham, New Brunswick (perhaps because his wife was living there late in the war).
- Award presented to his widow (Elizabeth), 1 April 1949.No citation other than,“in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations against the enemy".
- Buried in Durnbach War Cemetery in Bad Tolz, Bayern, Germany.
I am hoping that someone on this list might know something about S/L Crawford and his wife, Elizabeth and possibly any children.I am also looking for a picture of him in uniform.
