Since the Fraser & Hoyt Co. is still in business why not send them an email explaining your story and see what they can tell you about W.J.
Ahh, I just found an obit for a fellow who worked for the Co. and it is quite long and gives a bit of info. This fellow Chesley Drummond Fraser died in 2000.
It says he was the elder son of William Frank "W.F." Frase and Lena Tait Fraser. It says he joined his father's insurance firm Fraser & Hoyt in 1945.
Is it possible the J. in W.J. on your painting could be an F.??
I found death for William Frank Fraser, diedAug. 3, 1962 New Glasgow
he was in real estate insurance- he was born 1886 so 75 when he died (almost 76)
I looked for him in passenger lists but had no luck - I suppose it could be he bought the painting sight unseen due to the artist and had it shipped to him.
When you bought the painting who was selling it - could they perhaps tell you the history of how they had it ?
all I can think of for now, Carolyn L
