I cannot believe it, I just jumped a hurdle! it's taken me 30 years! 30!!!!! I am soooo close, I can taste it! I am trying to learn who my great Grandfather was so I can trace my family tree, but my Grandfather was very private and never spoke of his family, taking all the secrets with him to the grave. My father never met his Grandparents, and his father never spoke of them.
My grandfather was John Alexander Campbell, born between 1896 and 1898 on May 7th. His WWII records said 1896, and I JUST found his marriage certificate that said 1898. On both records he says his father's name was also John Alexander Campbell (the marriage document was dated 1929). I had heard from my Dad that he had heard his grandmothers name was Margaret, but I found the marriage certificate that said her name was MARY! So my father was wrong about that, I assume.
SO! I NEED help, one last little push, and I have success!
My Grandfather claimed he was in WWI, but I have never found service records. I have his WWII records. he stated in those he served with the 147th BN in WWI, which was an Owen Sound battalion (where he claimed he was born), but I could never find his name on those records. In his WWII records, in 1945, he stated his mother was dead, father alive, retired, in Toronto. On that record he stated he was born in Owen Sound in 1896, but someone crossed it out and put 1897 in writing.
On his marriage certificate, he claimed he was born 1898, and he stated that his mother's maiden name was Duncan. He also stated he was born in Windsor on that document, which is a departure from what he always claimed being born in Owen Sound. In his WWII records, he claimed he attended Markdale School till age 14. I contacted them, they don't have any records that old.
He always claimed his mother died when he was young, maybe around 7 years old.
Here's what I need;
I have to find a MARY CAMPBELL (Duncan) who died between 1900 and 1910, who was married to a John Alexander Campbell. I am guessing the death occured around Owen Sound, or Markdale.
I searched Ancestry, and Automated genology.
I am suspecting he was actually born in Windsor but moved to Owen Sound when he was young, because he knew of Markdale School, and he had knowledge of the 147th BN.
Can anyone provide help or advice?
Also, I am in Saskatchewan so I am more than happy if anyone needs Saskatchewan based research done in exchange, or whatever I can do for you.
Thanks for all your help and advice!!!!
