Wm. and Mary McCarthy family of PEI & Bangor, ME
In the 1900 US Census, Maine, Penobscot County, Series: T623 Roll: 597 Page: 55 there is a listing for the William McCarthy family. Wm. Sr. was born Oct 1854 in Canada [probably PEI] and his parents in Ireland. He immigrated to the USA in 1865. I have some reason to believe that he had a sister, Jane and a brother John in Charlottetown.
William married Mary _____, b. Jan 1858 in England. They married about 1882 and had four sons John b. Dec 1884, Wm. Jr. b Oct 1890, Martin b. Jun 1893 and Micheal b May 1895. In addition, They had a niece living with them for about 5 years named Josephine Power, b Mar 1888 according to the census.
My grandmother, Josephine Loretta Power, b. 23 MAY 1888 in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, lost her mother, the former Jane McCarthy in March 1895, thus there exists a good possibility that she was taken in by a family member [uncle] and raised by that family. I know she married in Boston in 1909 and is in the census for 1910 living in Mt. Clemens, MI, where my mother was born in 1910.
I think William senior's son John lived in Bangor and is listed in the 1910 & 1920 censuses, with a family that included a daughter named Loretta.
I would appreciate information about this greater McCarthy family.
Thanks,
Barry Peterson
