I am trying to find records on the Gilwee family (John and Margaret (Mullin) Gilwee) who came to Quebec from Ireland around 1825. The name has several variations from Gilwce, Gilwer, Kilwee and Gilwie due to transcription difficulties as well as likely name spelling changes. They lived possibly in the Montreal area initially after arrival, then moved to Farnham, in the Eastern Townships.
They are said to come from Sligo, Ireland, but I find no Gilwees at all in Ireland, so I am convinced the name was different before their arrival. The first baptismal record I have found for their children born in Canada is from 1837 for Sarah "Kilwee", other records have the Gilwee name or variations of it. They had one child, William who was born in Ireland prior to their immigration. Any possible information about this family would be greatly appreciated.
