Does anyone know how I can find info on a medal for bravery my g-g-g-father recieved for the "Frog Lake" campaign? His name was Joseph William (William Joseph) Belcher. He was from England and arrived at the port of Quebec via the SS Austrian (Montral Ocean Steam-Ship Co.) on 6 June 1870 with his wife Sarah and 4 children, George 11, Joseph 8(my g-g-father, aka J.W.),Thomas 5, and Catherine 3. I have been told that when Joseph died, his son had a "Queens Guard" uniform of his fathers and a medal his father was given for bravery. I believe a distant cousin has the medal but no one knows where the uniform went (I believe my mother told me it was red?) I would really love to find any of his military info. I believe he died in Canada. I know that one son, George stayed in Canada. The rest came to Watertown NY where they settled. According to family lore,J.W.(b. 1863, Maidstone, Eng.)worked on a barge at Cape Vincent bringing workers over to NY from Canada.ANy info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
