Sorry I have not replied sooner, but I have been busy preparing for our annual heritage trip to Croatia
Have you seen Nikola's Citizenship papers? That is if he lived in Montana and then in McKeesport PA.I believe I asked this a year or so ago but did not see that you replied to this question.
His Citizenship papers show he arrived as Gurjac GRBA on the La Savoie in Dec 1912.I found that person, which listed his father as Nikola, who lived at house number 43 Plaski, Croatia.
Also the Croatian alphabet has no letter W, but evidently whoever wrote WIDOKOVICH, was familiar with the German W which sounds like V.The correct spelling would be VIDAKOVIÈ
He was actually from Plaski which is 9 miles from Lièka Jesenica.
Both GRBA and VIDAKOVIC are found in Plaski and or Lièka Jesenica in the current online phone book. You will find address and phone numbers for these listings, simply select County Karlovacka
The majority in Licki Jasenice are ethnic Serbs, thus they would be Orthodox religion.Plaski on the other hand was nearly equally divided with ethnic Croats and ethnic Serbs prior the 1991 War of Independence.
Do you know what the religion of these people? It is important, not only from a family heritage standpoint, but will determine where you will find records about the family. Prior to WW II, the church was the official record keeper of baptism/birth, marriage and death records... and it is in those records where you will learn about the family.
Marriage record?Did they marry in W. VA? If so they were married in an Orthodox Church
