I started to trace our surname in 2000 when my aunt brought home a certificate from one of her trips in the US where it said the Crisostomo name originated from Greece, and was spelled before as Chrysostom. Then in 2001 when I was working in Philip Morris, I received an internal e-mail from someone in Philip Morris USA named Louis Crisostomo. He said that he was doing genealogy research and provided me with some information. He also said that he was retiring then from the company. We agreed to keep in touch but I too soon left Philip Morris Phils. and regrettably that was that. BTW, I am from the Philippines. I have discovered that the limited Crisostomos here are spread all over the country, but our common ancestor, according to Louis (who is an American citizen but of Filipino roots) first landed in Ilocos Norte, a province in the north. Today, there are Crisostomos here in the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, and in Metro Manila. I know that my cousins who are now in LA, USA were born in the southern province of Iloilo... I came across a theory (sorry I forget the exact source since I stopped for a while doing research) where it said the first Crisostomo in the Philippines may have landed here as a stow away in one of the Spanish Galleons. He was supposedly one of two remaining brothers who were on the run from the wrath of a Greece king (did they have kings in Greece before?)who ordered that all Chrysostoms be wiped out from Greece (intriguing!) because of some misdeed that his trusted right handman (a Chrysostom) had done to him. The other brother got caught (no country identified where), but the other one supposedly eluded the King's men when they came after him in Spain. And that remaining survivor is supposed to be our common ancestor here in the Philippines, where he changed the spelling of our last name to its Spanish version, Crisostomo... My father's name was Oscar P. Crisostomo, his father was Jose who had one brother named Tomas. My father had several siblings - 2 brothers and 5 sisters. My granduncle remained unmarried but had several children who bore his family name, one of whom is also now married to an American and living in the States.
