I am a decendent of the European community in Alexandria, Egypt. My (traceable) roots go as far back as 1866, when my great-grandfather Hermann Wechsler was born.
Hermann was born in Alexandria according to his marriage document, but went back and forth between Vienna, where he owned a house, probably Trieste/Gorizia and Alexandria. His father was Israel Wechsler, who was married to a Rosa Chamerini or maybe Camerini (latter may be true, as Camerini is an Italian Jewish Name and Wechsler is obviously a Jewish Germanic Name). It must have been Israel, who left for Egypt with his wife. I know absolutely nothing about him, and seem to be unable to find any trace of him. Maybe one of you could help out. I would really like to find out if he had further children and where they ended up.
Unfortunately the Jewish heritage was kept a secret to us children for whatever reason, and it was only after my father's death, that I found the evidence for something I had alway thought was true.
If anybody could help me in my query, or point me in the right direction, I would be extremely happy.
