Dr. Barnardo Home - Southampton
I'm hoping that someone can help me here.
My husband's grandmother, Ivy May JERAM, was admitted to the Dr. Barnardo system probably sometime around June 1910.
On the 1911 UK Census, she is listed as "Ivy May Jeram (alias Passenger)" as being one of the "Children of the Dr. Barnardo's Home" ... and living with the "Institutional Agent" James Hodgson and the "Institutional Matron" Frances Hodgson. They were living at 28 Above Bar, Southampton.
I have been unable to find any reference to this particular place within the Dr. Barnardo "former home" addresses.
I must assume that Ivy remained there until she was sent to Canada in 1914, but I don't know that for sure.
The "alias Passenger" notation is interesting. Ivy's mother's maiden name was Passenger ... and I'm wondering if this designation meant that her father and mother weren't married?
Of the five children listed at the address, only one other has the "alias" notation beside her name.
Any help would be appreciated.
