I am looking for information on the lineage of David Wooster of MAINE, who was probably born in Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, England 1732 and died at North Haven, Maine in 1808. We have a baptism record from 1735 for a David Wooster son of John and Elizabeth at High Wycombe, Bucks, but we don't know if he's "our" David. He is the only David in that area who was baptized anywhere close to the right time. The dates and information that he was born in England come from his gravestone. No hard copy records exist that we know of.
His name is variously spelled Woster, Wooster, Worster, Weister, Wester, and Worcester!
He married Lucy Lydia Crockett in Falmouth or Portland, Maine; daughter of Nathaniel Crockett and Margaret Andrews, probably in 1758. (In one genealogy, her name is listed as Lois.) They had 7 children. He may have lived for some time on Vinalhaven, Maine--Vinalhaven and North Haven together were the Fox Islands. VH might have been called South Fox Island at the time David was alive. North Haven might have been called North Fox Island.
We found a source that said that his parents died when he was young and he came to America with an uncle in 1744, arriving at Boston. We don't know when he came to Maine. Another source has it that he was spar-maker to the King of England, and came to Maine to look for suitable trees.
We don't think he was related to any of the Woosters who settled in Connecticut. One source says that three brothers came to America in the 1600s, William, Thomas, and Edward. Edward went to CT, William and Thomas settled in MA. Edward's grandson Moses Wooster moved to Kittery, Maine. But that was after David was born.
If you know more than this, or know where I can find records, please let me know. Thanks!
