I have reached a brick wall with my ancestor and would appreciate any help/suggestions.
I am trying to trace a Jean Christopher Wildermouth (can also be spelt Wildermoth (this is how it is generally spelt in England etc)
According to the IGI he was born in France in around 1766.It is believed that he was a soldier and that he made his way to Ireland where he married Anne Keenan in 1787 (this is also from the IGI).
I would like to know more about this gentleman as he is my direct ancestor.
So far nearly every led I have tried has failed to find any mention of him in any Irish records etc.
Researching the Wildermoths (Wildermouth) family it appears that it is an unusual name and that all the Wildermoths that appear in the records in Ireland and England are related and descended from this Jean Christopher.
Recently I have made some progress and have found mention of a Colonel Jean Henri De Wildermouth in some french records. This Jean-Henri may be the father (or a relative) of Jean Christopher.
I would try to found out if this is true so am also interested in finding another out about this man also.
I have been told that Wildermouth is not a French name either and that it appears that the Colonel was not a french national but that he may of been born in Sweden as he served with the Royal Suédois Infanterie during the seven years war and that to be a member of this regiment all officers had to be Swedish nationals.
