That surname does appear in the 1919 Mecklenburg-Schwerin census, and in the US Census (from, I believe, this original poster's family).
I found a Baltimore passenger record for Georg & Albert Scheidies in 1903.Albert is aged 13, from Dirkschen (spelling?). George is 17, also from the same village. The shortform "op" follows which may mean Ost-Preussen (East Prussia).
Albert was naturalized in Nebraska, so that record may provide more information.
