KRIEGER, KLEINE, NIEMEYER aus Ostercappeln
Looking for info on my father's mother's family. The spelling used in America is Krieger; the handwritten ship manifest entry could be read as Krieger, Kruger or Krüger. Mary(Maria) arrrived Ellis Island, NY on SS. Werkendam out of Rotterdam 26.Aug.1892 with daughters Anna and Agnes, bound for Toledo, OH. City of origin listed as Ostercappeln both in ship records and in later US census records. Evidently husband Herman had come over earlier and sent for family. He is listed in the US census as a shoemaker. Agnes later married Adolf Niemeyer, whose father had come from Ostercappeln, mother from Westphal. Both families are Roman Catholic. And for whatever it's worth, my grandmother Hannah (born in America) still spoke a little German when i was a child -- "Du bis a nixnutz" was heard quite a few times.
If anyone has any information on these families, please pass it on.
Tschüß, alle.
