Ilisco surname
Hallo, everyone.
I am doing a bit of genealogical research and found that my ancestor Biagio Ilisco was an orphan. Family lore says that his ancestry was Greek, and I wanted to know if anyone here had any insight into this based upon the surname. It was rendered Ilisco uniformly since the 1860s, and before that, I've found no record. Biagio Ilisco was born around 1843, most likely Caserta in Campania. If anyone has any historical information regarding Greek migration to Italy in that era, or about the surname itself (I've come across Elis being pronounced Ilis in dialect, and the suffix -kou being a genetive, but most common in Cyprus, not near Peleponnese where Elis is...I digress) so if any of you have any insights, I look forward to hearing them.
