I am seeking information on my grandmother and her family, of whom I know very little.
My grandmother, Rita Nellie Barton, was born in Guave, Grenada on April 12, 1902, and died just last summer. She was the daughter of Ferdinand Barton (born in Argentina) and Mary/Marie Romney (born in France). Marie had relatives named Cecile/Cecelia Romney and Andrew Romney. The family owned a cocoa plantation on the island, and also spent some time living on Barbados. I believe that Rita had a sister named Catherine Barton and a brother, Kenneth Barton. The family (or part of it) emigrated to Ontario, Canada around 1920, eventually moving to Niagara Falls, NY. Rita married my grandfather, George Pernettas, in 1926 and they had 2 daughters, Shirley and Pauline.
Due to a very sad series of events, Rita spent most of her life away from her daughters, and by the time they found her she was too old to remember much about her family history and her past. We have never even seen a photo of her as a young woman. She was 100 years old when she died in July 2002.
If anyone has ANY information - however small - that may help me and my family and I would be extremely grateful.
