My name is Marie-Carmelle Boutin, born in Les Cayes Haiti. We are able to trace our family back to Pierre Boutin, whom we assume 1ived in the late 1700s. One of his children was Jean-Jacques Boutin, who was the father of Numa Boutin. He lived in the area known as Laurent, about 5 miles north-east of Les Cayes and owned a distillery which remained in operation until the 1950s.His daughter Alcinea was born in 1863.
According to the family's oral history, the family descends from two brothers brought to Haiti from France by their brother who was a priest. We assume this priest was the Pere Pierre-Louis Boutin, referred to by Moreau de St. Mèry. Incidentally, in the archives at Pèrigueux, capital of the region which includes La Tour Blanche, the priest's name is Pierre-Aloys, although, given the facts of his life, he is clearly the same person.
